Please join us for a special book talk with Professor James Comey.

Published in January 2021, Comey's second book, Saving Justice: Truth, Transparency, and Trust, explores issues in justice and fairness in the US justice system, delving into his long career as a leader in federal government. In this much-anticipated follow-up to A Higher Loyalty, Comey uses anecdotes and lessons from his career to show how the federal justice system works and to underscore the critical importance of truth, transparency, and trust in leadership and organizational character. From prosecuting mobsters as an Assistant US Attorney in the Southern District of New York in the 1980s to grappling with the legalities of anti-terrorism work as the Deputy Attorney General in the early 2000s to his tumultuous stint as FBI director beginning in 2013, Comey writes how essential it is to pursue the primacy of truth for federal law enforcement. A stalwart believer in the US justice system as a force for good, Professor Comey also discusses how far afield it strayed during the Trump Presidency, and offers a proposal for a way forward.

Introductions by Sam Ackerman '22, President of Columbia Law's National Security Law Society

Moderated by Dan Richman, Paul J. Kellner Professor of Law
