As part of the Reuben Mark Initiative for Organizational Character and Leadership, the Organizational Leadership Series will host John Flint, former group CEO of HSBC and CEO of UK Infrastructure Bank, in conversation with Leland Kutay '22, MBA candidate at Columbia Business School. The discussion will focus on John's leadership progression during his three decades at HSBC, including his experience representing multiple countries and their unique business cultures as well as his employees-first strategy.
About John Flint
John is the Chief Executive of the UK Infrastructure Bank and the former Group Chief Executive of HSBC.
During his 30-year career with HSBC he built a range of skills in wholesale banking, retail banking, and Treasury and risk management. He represented HSBC in 9 countries, spending much of his career in Asia. He progressed through the roles of Group Treasurer, Deputy Head of Global Markets, Chief Executive of HSBC Asset Management, and Chief Executive of Retail Banking and Wealth Management before being appointed Group Chief Executive, and Chairman of The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation.
John was a member of the International Business Council and Climate Finance Leadership Initiative of the World Economic Forum. He also served as a member of the International Advisory Panel of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and was a Global Commissioner of the New Climate Economy.
He was appointed a Member of the Independent Review Panel on Ring-Fencing Legislation and Proprietary Trading by HM Treasury in the UK in January 2021, and Chief Executive of the UK Infrastructure Bank in September 2021.
