Lunchtime Panel Q&A with David Anderman - Former SpaceX GC

As part of the Reuben Mark Initiative for Organizational Character and Leadership, the Organizational Leadership Series will host David Anderman, co-founder and Operating Partner of Stellar Ventures who recently served as the General Counsel for SpaceX.  The discussion, moderated by Professor Eric Talley, will focus on David's leadership role at Stellar Ventures and how it has been shaped by his business, legal, public policy, and philanthropic experiences throughout his career. The discussion will take place in Big Warren 309 on Monday, April 17th from 12:15 - 1:15 pm; Lunch will be provided for those who attend (Please reach out to Michael Willis regarding any dietary restrictions at his email [email protected] by EOD Thursday, April 13th). Participants that cannot attend in person may join virtually.

David Anderman's Bio:

David Anderman is a seasoned executive with a passion for business strategy and dealmaking in the technology, digital media, aerospace, and consumer sectors. He is the co-founder and Operating Partner of Stellar Ventures, a fund investing in early stage space startups. He most recently served as the General Counsel of SpaceX, Elon Musk’s rocket company, where he supported the launch of NASA astronauts to the International Space Station (the first-ever launch of humans by a private company), the maiden flight of Starship (SpaceX’s Mars colony ship), and the rollout of the Starlink global satellite internet system.

Prior to SpaceX, Mr. Anderman spent 16 years at Lucasfilm Ltd., George Lucas’s entertainment empire, starting as the junior lawyer and rising through the ranks to become Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel. In 2012, he negotiated the $4 billion acquisition of Lucasfilm by the Walt Disney Company, and oversaw the integration of the companies post-merger. He then served as the Chief Business Officer and General Counsel of Jaunt, a cinematic virtual reality company, where he was responsible for the company’s strategy, finance, business development, legal affairs, and HR. Prior to Lucasfilm, Mr. Anderman was an IP litigator in the Silicon Valley offices of Orrick as well as Brown & Bain, focusing on technology matters.

Mr. Anderman serves on the boards of directors and/or advisory boards of a number of technology startups, including Firefly Aerospace (launch vehicles and lunar landers), Occipital (spatial computing), Space Hero (space media), Arcturus Industries (realtime 3D perception systems), LightTwist (virtual environments), Artizen (Web3 fund for public goods), Monsarrat Games (AR videogames), Loom.ai (facial motion capture, acquired by Roblox), Theia Interactive (immersive visualizations), Allseated (virtual events), asensei (wearable motion capture and training), Haystack TV (mobile video news platform), and others, and has been a mentor at Founders Space, StartX, and SV Angel. He is also an Operating Partner at Kilonova Capital, a growth equity and structured finance firm investing in technology and aerospace companies, and Supernode Global, a digital content technology fund.

Mr. Anderman received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and was Executive Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review.
